Meet your guide at Hualien Station. Ease in with the pebble crescent of Qixingtan Beach, then wander the Japanese-era quarter and night market tastings.

A full day among marble walls — Shakadang or Swallow Grotto trails as conditions allow, then the sea-and-cliff drama of Qingshui viewed from the coastal highway.

Day 3Coast highway south — Amis community evening
Drive the Pacific highway past Shitiping's stone terraces and the Tropic of Cancer marker. At dusk, join an Amis family for a wild-greens dinner and songs by the fire.

Day 4East Rift Valley — Chishang by bicycle
